City of Havelock issued the following announcement on Jan. 28.

The National Weather Service forecasts a hazardous weather outlook for Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point will go into effect during the evening of Friday, Jan. 28 until the morning of Saturday, Jan. 29. The storm is expected to deliver less than 1 inch of rain and snow mix to the local area. Limited melting is predicted to occur during the day Saturday, with wind chill values dipping into the single digits Saturday night. The possibility of a refreezing exists Saturday evening through Sunday morning, causing hazardous road conditions and black ice.

Slocum Gate:

On Saturday, Jan. 29, PMO will close access to the overpass that brings inbound traffic into the Slocum Gate from Hwy 70E, coming from New Bern.  The overpass will be closed until Sunday afternoon.  Drivers coming from the New Bern direction that wish to enter the Slocum Gate are advised to drive past the overpass and make a legal U-turn to enter the gate from the opposite direction or proceed to the Main Gate.  The Slocum Gate hours are not affected by the winter weather.
