FOIA Request Sent to Bertie County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Bertie County Election Department in North Carolina on February 5, 2025. The request was made by IBX News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The request, made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., sought detailed information about all candidates running for the upcoming election. Specifically, we at IBX News requested a list that includes each candidate’s first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.

Additionally, we requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to these public records is essential for us at IBX News to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that as a media professional disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver.

We await a response from the Bertie County Election Department and will continue our efforts to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.
