FOIA Request Sent to Camden County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Camden County Election Department in North Carolina on February 5, 2025. The request was made by IBX News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In the request, we at IBX News asked for records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., specifically seeking a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. The information requested includes the candidates’ first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation.

Additionally, we requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media, we at IBX News believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we consider ourselves eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

The request was made with an aim to ensure that voters have complete knowledge about who is running for office in their local government. This information can help voters make informed decisions when casting their ballots.

We are awaiting a response from the Camden County Election Department regarding this request.
