A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Chowan County Election Department regarding pre-election voting machine test reports on October 30, 2024.

The request was made by IBX News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in public institutions, we sought access to specific records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.

Specifically, we requested electronic copies of pre-election test reports for the county’s voting machines. The desired information includes the date of each test, the manufacturer of each machine tested, the model number of each machine, and whether each machine passed or failed its test.

As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us at IBX News. This enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

In line with this commitment, we have also asked for a fee waiver as a media professional involved in disseminating information to the public.

We await a positive response from the Chowan County Election Department as we continue our mission of providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
