FOIA Request to Gates County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at IBX News have submitted a request for public records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.

The request was sent to the Gates County Election Department and seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election. Specifically, we asked for the first, middle, and last names of each candidate along with the office they are vying for and its jurisdiction. Additionally, we requested details about each candidate’s party affiliation.

In order to facilitate direct communication with these candidates for follow-up interviews or clarifications, we also asked for their contact information. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

Access to public records is crucial for us at IBX News as it enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver.

We will keep you updated as we receive more information from the Gates County Election Department regarding this request.
