As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at IBX News have submitted a request for public records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. The request was made in electronic format and sent to the Hertford County Election Department.

The information requested includes a complete list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. This list should contain each candidate’s first, middle, and last name, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office, and their party affiliation.

In addition to this basic information about each candidate, we also requested contact details for each individual. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await a response from the Hertford County Election Department regarding this request.
