Recent data show that college readiness among high school students in Craven County varies by subject area. For seniors taking the science portion of the ACT during the 2022-23 school year, 152 out of 774 students (19.6%) were considered ready for college according to state education officials. Among juniors, 139 out of 733 students (19%) met this benchmark according to state education officials.
In reading, results indicate that of the senior class, 255 out of 774 students (32.9%) demonstrated college readiness on the ACT according to state education officials, while among juniors, it was achieved by 195 out of 733 students (26.6%) according to state education officials.
Math scores were lower: only 143 seniors out of a cohort of 774 (18.5%) were deemed ready for college-level math according to state education officials. For juniors, this figure was even lower—115 out of 733 (15.7%) reached college-ready status in math according to state education officials.
