Rep. Keith Kidwell traveled to the Virginia capital Jan. 20 to meet with the state’s Republican caucus to deliver a letter from the North Carolina Republican Caucus, backing the actions of communities and cities that have declared their areas “Second Amendment sanctuaries.”
Kidwell wrote on his Facebook page that he and other North Carolina Republicans were received warmly.
“They received us very warmly and expressed their thanks for coming to support them. It was also a great honor to stand at the same podium that Thomas Jefferson delivered addresses from. We now stand a similar crossroads where we must stand with Virginia and stand for the [Second] Amendment," he wrote.
At the time, Virginia’s General Assembly was debating gun control measures which have gained momentum with the legislature under Democratic control.
Kidwell represents North Carolina’s 79th District in the House of Representatives, and is a resident of Beaufort County.
