HALIFAX COUNTY: County Offices Closing Due to Covid-19

Healthcare

Halifax County recently issued the following announcement.

In an unprecedented effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19, Halifax County

Manager Tony Brown announced today that county government offices will close starting

tomorrow (March 26, 2020) at 8:30 a.m. The tentative re-opening date will be 8:30 a.m. on

Monday, April 6, 2020. This is subject to change.

During this time, some staff deemed essential will still report to work at varying times. Public

safety employees including EMS, 911 Telecommunicators and Sheriff’s Office will work normal

schedules. Other departments will modify their hours and services available. Please see the

bulleted list below:

• Solid Waste: services including garbage pick-up will operate normally. Convenience

centers and the transfer station will be open under normal schedule.

• Public Health: (Health Department, WIC, Animal Control, Environmental Health) will be

offered on a limited and essential basis via appointment only, by calling the main number

at 583-5021.

• DSS: open for appointments made in advance only on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

• Planning and Inspections: inspections will be scheduled by appointment on Mondays,

Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Citizens are encouraged to still make utility and tax payments online or through the drop-boxes

that are available. Employees will be coming in on a limited basis to process payments, but

offices other than services listed above remain closed to the public. Any citizen with a book

checked out from one of the five Halifax County Library branches is asked to keep the book until

the branches are re-opened, as the book drop boxes will not be checked every day. Any fees or

fines associated with a late-return of a library book will be waived.

The Court Services Building (Ferrell Lane, Halifax) will remain open to allow for limited

business in the Clerk of Court’s office, Juvenile Services, and other state mandated business as

required by law. Citizens with further questions regarding a county service may call the relevant

office and leave a message to receive a return call.
