On March 10, 2020, Governor Cooper took the next step in the state's COVID-19 preparedness place and issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency.

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) shared several recommendations to slow the spread of COVID-19 and reduce the number of people infected. These recommendations are intended to help slow the spread of the virus and protect people at high risk of severe illness, which includes adults over 65 years, those with underlying health conditions including heart disease, lung disease, or diabetes, or weakened immune systems.
Governor Roy Cooper announced on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, a presumptive positive case of disease 2019 (COVID-19). The announcement represents an isolated case, and COVID-19 is currently not widespread in North Carolina.
