BEAUFORT COUNTY: Public Hearing - Economic Development Performance Grant

Public hearing 1000x667

Beaufort County issued the following announcement on April 28.

During their regularly scheduled meeting on May 4, 2020 the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing to receive comments from the public relating to an economic development performance grant.

Project Breeze" is an expansion of a manufacturing company into a new air purification product line.

The company currently has plans to locate a facility in Beaufort County, NC or an out-of-state location.  The State is providing incentives to compete with the out-of-state location and assist Project River Breeze in the start-up of their new manufacturing plant.

Investment and Jobs:  The company plans to invest $2,600,000 in a facility and $1,000,000 in equipment. Once at full capacity after 5 years, Project River Breeze will employ 76 full-time employees paying an average annual wage of $38,224.  The average 2020 County wage rate is $38,008.  The jobs will include managers, engineers, shift managers, assemblers, and administration positions.

Economic Development Grant:  The economic development performance grant will be paid out over 5 years only after the County has collected Project River Breeze’s property taxes for the year and will not exceed the property taxes paid in that year.  The grant will require the company to achieve its capital investment and job creation goals plus be current on all its Beaufort County tax obligations to receive the proposed grant funding.  If the jobs are not created and/or held for the specified time period, the economic development performance grant will be returned to the County proportional to the number of jobs not created.
