The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services' (NCDHHS) Crisis Intervention Program is providing funding to households needing help paying their heating or cooling bills during the hot months.
“We know many families are currently facing additional financial hardships due to COVID-19, and this program is designed to bring aid to those in crisis to alleviate cooling or heating emergencies,” David Locklear, deputy director of Economic and Family Services in the Division of Social Services, said in a July press release from NCDHHS. “North Carolina is moving into its hottest months of the year, and we hope those eligible will take advantage of this program to help keep their families safe and healthy.”
Low-income families are eligible to apply for assistance. The application can be downloaded at the ePASS website and can be submitted through fax, mail or dropped off at a DSS office.
To be eligible for assistance, at least one person in a household needs to meet the criteria, such as income and have a heating or cooling emergency. More information on the program and requirements can be found on the Crisis Intervention Program website.
