A Republican lawmaker suggested that Gov. Roy Cooper's vetos of specific bills mean he does not support education.

In an Aug. 26 Facebook post, Rep. Keith Kidwell (R-Beaufort) said, "From a governor who says he supports education," referencing an image of a clipboard with education-related items the governor vetoed.

As an example, Kidwell noted that the North Carolina governor vetoed a 3.9% average pay raise for teachers and $4.4 billion for school construction, Kidwell posted to his Facebook page.  In addition to vetoing those bills, Cooper has also rejected $91 million for school safety, $15 million for classroom supplies and $3 million to provide free lunches to families in need.

Kidwell's constituents commented on his Facebook post, agreeing with the Republican lawmaker, saying Cooper doesn't support education.

"He doesn't support education," Patrick Ferrell said in response to Kidwell's post. "Him not getting kids back into school full time is proof of that. And for someone that claims he cares about poor, specials needs and disadvantaged kids, he has been exposed as a fraud."
