CITY OF HAVELOCK: Mr. Jim Freeman Passed Away on July 9, 2022

City of Havelock issued the following announcement on July 11.

Mr. Jim Freeman, former City Manager of Havelock passed away on July 9, 2022. Being an integral part of our community for many years, the City of Havelock passes along the below mentioned funeral arrangements: 

Friday, July 22nd: 11:00am Mass at St. Philip Apostle Catholic Church 525 Camden Dr. Statesville, NC 28677

Saturday, July 23rd: "Celebration of Life" Memorial from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Sweet Magnolia Estate, 10101 Bailey Rd. Cornelius, NC 28031

Mr. Freeman was hired as Havelock's City Manager on January 3, 2005 and retired on March 31, 2013. The City accomplished many things under his leadership to include, but not limited to: Sewer Outfall Line and Plant Improvements, Water Plant Upgrades, Havelock Senior Center Project, Construction of the West End Fire Station, Construction of a new City Hall facility, and the Construction of the 9/11 Memorial Site. Initiated by the City of Havelock, Mr. Freeman also received the State of North Carolina's, "The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award" on December 1, 2013. 

Since his retirement, he held numerous interim manager positions throughout the State to assist cities/towns searching for new managers. During a transition period, the City of Havelock was once again honored to receive his assistance as the City's Interim City Manager from June 2021 to March 2022.

As we mourn the loss of a leader and dear friend of Havelock, we share our condolences with his family. Rest in Peace Mr. Freeman, you will never be forgotten!
