CRAVEN COUNTY SCHOOLS: November Board of Education Meeting, Community Recognition and International Paper

Craven County Schools issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.

The Board of Education is proud to spotlight our International Paper Grant funding for Trent Park Elementary and to thank International Paper for their support through the awarding of $7,500 through Partners In Education.

Funding from this grant will give our students at Trent Park Elementary the opportunity to select their own books to keep through the Lexia “level up” reading program to improve their literacy skills and to help them fall in love with reading by allowing them to choose books to keep as their own as they reach their learning goals. We know that providing the means for children to decide which books they want to read at home and keep for their own will help students build healthy habits of life-long reading.

The focus of the award is to increase literacy achievement through direct services to the students of Craven County Schools.

As Catherine Burgess, Communications Specialist with International Paper explains, "The most successful way to improve the reading achievement of our students is to increase their access to print. At International Paper, we make sustainable investments to protect and improve the lives of our employees and mobilize our people, products, and resources to address critical needs in the communities where our employees live at work. Supporting PIE is one way we are doing this."

Thank you to Partners In Education and International Paper for making the awarding of this grant possible, and congratulations to the winners of the grant!

As Darlene and Catherine say, "Paper is Good!"
