Road repair is an expensive project, but Mount Airy's burden obtained some relief from a state allocation.
The Department of Transportation's State Street Aid to Municipalities Program provided the city with $296,444 for road-related improvements, the Mount Airy News reported in October.
While the North Carolina Department of Transportation takes care of highways and interstates, it is the municipal government's responsibility to maintain roads within their jurisdictions.
Funding comes through the gas tax revenues returned to municipalities using a formula.
The city plans to use its latest round of funding first for Pine Creek Trail, Laurel Lane and Valleyview Drive projects, the Mount Airy News reported.
"We always try to manage our timing and money in order to cover larger areas to get more competitive bids and hopefully better pricing," City Manager Barbara Jones said, The Mount Airy News reported.
The city also hopes to address infrastructure issues on Camelia Court, Boston Circle, Laurel Creek Drive and Foxledge Drive, The Mount Airy News reported.
