A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Tyrrell County Election Department in North Carolina on February 5, 2025. The request, made by IBX News, sought comprehensive details about the candidates running for office in the upcoming spring elections.
IBX News, a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has asked for a list of all candidates participating in the forthcoming election. The requested information includes each candidate's first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.
Additionally, IBX News has requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

Consequently, we have requested a fee waiver as part of our role in disseminating this important information to the public.
The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., with a preference for an electronic format response. As of now, it remains unclear when or how the Tyrrell County Election Department will respond.
