Gates County recently issued the following announcement.
Calendar Announcement: Girl Scouts and WHRO-TV 15 Partner to Celebrate Women's Equality Day
On August 26, Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast (GSCCC) in partnership with WHRO TV-15 will offer a free one-hour virtual event at 6 p.m. to celebrate Women's Equality Day. This year is special. The nation will observe the 100th anniversary of the signing of the 19th Amendment which gave women the right to vote. This free event is open to the public but registration is required.
The event will include a 30-minute segment from the film, The Vote, focusing on the largest parade to take place during that era and organized by the Suffragists in 1913.
A panel discussion will follow the film viewing and will include Old Dominion University Women's Center Director La Wanza Lett-Brewington, Virginia Delegate Marcia Price, and Sally Daniel, a former president of the American Association of University Women's Virginia Beach Chapter and former staff member with the Tidewater Community College's Women's Center. The panel will be moderated by Claire Winiarek, a former Congressional staff member and current Vice President of State Affairs for the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association and a GSCCC board member.
Those interested can register via Facebook events on Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast or WHRO, or can directly register at https://ovee.itvs.org/screenings/siyeq
