Washington Regional Medical Center's laboratory in Fayetteville, Arkansas, has been reaccredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), a leading provider of laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing programs. This reaccreditation follows a recent on-site inspection by CAP to ensure that the laboratory meets high standards of care for patients. The inspection covered various aspects such as records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety programs, and overall management.

In addition to the CAP reaccreditation, Washington Regional’s blood bank received reaccreditation for transfusion services from the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB). The AABB sets standards for blood banks and transfusion services to ensure quality and safety for both donors and patients.

Birch Wright, Chief Operating Officer at Washington Regional, stated that these reaccreditations demonstrate the center's commitment to providing high-quality care. "Both the College of American Pathologists and the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies maintain exacting standards. Achieving these recertifications highlights our team members’ dedication to Washington Regional’s mission of improving the health of people in the communities we serve."

The laboratory at Washington Regional is one of the busiest in Arkansas, processing millions of samples annually. Accurate lab tests are crucial for physicians and providers in determining appropriate treatment plans for patients. Washington Regional first achieved CAP accreditation in 1978 and obtained its initial AABB accreditation in 2020.
