The CarolinaEast Foundation has announced the availability of nursing scholarships for this year. These scholarships are funded through several sources, including the Joseph Hageman Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund, the Robert and Beatrice Honnet Nursing Scholarship Fund, the David Elliot Nursing Scholarship Fund, and the Dereck Whittenburg Foundation.
Scholarships are open to full-time students enrolled in accredited programs leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN), an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN), or licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The deadline for applications is Friday, April 18, 2025. Scholarships will be distributed over the summer.
The Joseph Hageman Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund honors Mr. Joe Hageman, a distinguished nurse with CarolinaEast Health System who passed away in 2006. In conjunction with this program, the Robert and Beatrice Honnet Nursing Scholarship Fund was established to support students returning to education later in life.
Scholarship amounts vary based on educational pursuits: $8,000 for BSN students; $3,500 for those pursuing an ADN or enrolled in LPN to ADN Transition Programs; and $3,000 for students seeking LPN licensure. Applicants must reside in Craven, Carteret, Jones, Onslow, or Pamlico counties.
CarolinaEast Health System employees pursuing advanced degrees such as BSN, Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN), or Nurse Practitioner degrees can apply for $3,500 scholarships. Additionally, a $5,000 Hageman Alumni Scholarship is available for previous recipients aiming to further their nursing education.
In 2024, 13 local nursing students received a total of $58,000 from the foundation. Since its inception in 2007, the scholarship program has awarded $516,500 to 142 nursing students.
Applications must be submitted by mail and postmarked by April 18. No late submissions will be accepted. Information and application forms are available on the CarolinaEast Foundation's website at www.carolinaeastfoundation.com. For inquiries, contact the foundation at 252-633-8247.
