Washington Regional Medical Center has been redesignated as a Level II Trauma Center by the Arkansas Department of Health. This achievement follows a comprehensive two-day, on-site inspection of the medical center's trauma program.

The facility offers the highest level of trauma care in the area for critically injured patients, with 24/7 readiness and immediate coverage from specialists in general surgery, orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology, and critical care. In 2024 alone, Washington Regional’s Trauma Center treated 3,058 trauma patients. Of these patients, 419 were transferred from other facilities across Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.

“This redesignation demonstrates Washington Regional’s commitment to fulfilling our mission of improving the health of people in the communities we serve,” stated Birch Wright, Chief Operating Officer at Washington Regional. He further mentioned that "Washington Regional is now taking steps to obtain designation as a Level I Trauma Center" and highlighted future efforts towards meeting Level I criteria.

Beyond initial treatment phases, Washington Regional focuses on providing continuous best-practice care throughout patient hospital stays to ensure optimal outcomes. The trauma team collaborates closely with local emergency response agencies and facilitates rehabilitation placement for those needing additional assistance post-hospitalization. Additionally, they provide education on trauma and injury prevention to the community.
